Physical-to-digital description

Staff photograph, scan, describe, record, index a possession and selected encounters. They preserve links to the physical instance, observation method, author, time, scope, permission. The resulting material supports retrieval, comparison, memory, further proposals.

A camera can have condition photographs, an operational demonstration, a custodian account, a scan, numerical representations of text, a record of portraits made with it. Each record omits some aspects and permits particular operations. Staff examine the purpose before adding a more elaborate representation.

Representations, the passport, semantic processing explain these distinctions. The reverse movement uses selected digital relations to arrange another material encounter, then records the result. The continuing cycle depends on both practical action and maintained references.
