Comparison of observation configurations
Researchers specify a decision or interpretation before comparing sources. They can prepare an account from host notes, add voluntary participant explanations, then examine richer object or room records. Reviewers identify any change in the proposed encounter, its justification, the uncertainty, the participant's experience.
Additional records may correct a reconstruction, reveal a missed reference, contribute little, encourage unsupported inference. Staff also examine practical effort, equipment effects, record sensitivity, review time, retention. The comparison concerns useful understanding under stated conditions rather than volume alone.
The added-observation experiment and memory experiment develop specific comparisons. Researchers preserve negative results and alternative explanations. The complete institution can retain extensive research capacity while choosing a narrower arrangement for a particular ordinary occasion.
