Declined or unsuccessful encounters
Staff follow refusal, unanswered invitations, misunderstandings, unwanted proposals, activities ending without continuation. They distinguish the institution's intended outcome from each participant's account of value or burden.
A recipient may lack time, find the proposed subject irrelevant, prefer privacy, have an existing relationship with the sender. A difficult discussion may later support useful work. A pleasant meeting may remain an ordinary evening. Staff preserve these possibilities while seeking only the follow-up actually agreed.
Researchers can examine errors in evidence, poor timing, an inappropriate activity, excessive disclosure, an unsupported interpretation. Negative results, review, event accounts help improve the proposal. A participant's decision to stop is part of the actual sequence rather than a missing success story requiring further pressure.
