Semantic centroids

Software can calculate an average position from several numerical representations. Researchers may use a centroid as a summary while comparing a participant's contributed material. They need to specify the selected sources, weighting, time interval, representation method.

A person contributes photography references, theological questions, mechanical repair accounts, theatre activity. An average may place them near broad interests while obscuring a rare specific connection. A local question about a particular camera modification could support an encounter even if whole-person averages differ.

Staff therefore compare a centroid with local clusters, individual passages, questions, demonstrated skills. They can also follow movement over time after accounting for changes in available material. Researchers examine the summary's usefulness for a particular task and avoid treating its mathematical center as a person's complete meaning or identity.
