Organizer-led installation
The primary arrangement begins with the organizers designing and setting up the space. They examine acquired possessions, their prior settings, participants' accounts, practical uses. They arrange an interior as if the contributed belongings formed the possessions of a resident, while keeping the underlying relationships available for later examination.
They choose placement through practical coherence, visual composition, possible association, likely activity. Books need places for reading. A vessel needs an appropriate use. A textile may be worn, displayed, placed within a domestic arrangement. Organizers preserve the collection's variety while making the available scale convincing as an inhabited setting.
Staff record supplied furniture, deposited material, added comparison objects, the reasons for selected arrangements. They can prepare initial curatorial hypotheses without assuming visitors follow the intended route. The gathering supplies later material for comparison. A changed placement or unexpected use can prompt another interpretation.
Unpacking offers an optional preceding activity. Independent visitors can arrange the same material, explain their placements, supply another interpretation before the organizers finalize an interior. Organizers can also compare several arrangements through specific exercises. The primary event proceeds from organizer-led installation when this additional activity is omitted.
