The assembled home and its history
Organizers arrange possessions from several participants as if they belonged within a resident's home. They choose an appropriate spatial scale, supply practical facilities, examine the relations among objects, activity, appearance. The initial installation receives a record of placement and curatorial intentions.
Visitors then use the setting, develop accounts, establish habits, make new material. Staff document changed arrangements, meals, conversations, repairs, absences, additions. A chair's return can end a familiar reading arrangement. A photograph made at an earlier gathering can enter the same room and prompt another response.
Depositors contribute possessions and initial histories. Organizers compose the setting. Visitors add use, interpretation, changes. Researchers examine the resulting shared world through installation, groupings, the first gathering, return visits. They can also document an optional independent Unpacking.
The continuing home requires care, access, practical hosting, record maintenance. Staff discuss authorship for contributed images and accounts while following the actual history of the setting.
