Object families
Staff use the families as an initial vocabulary for examining activities with possessions. They ask about reading, viewing, wearing, serving, operating, playing, tending, carrying. A family directs attention to possible use and examination rather than settling a possession's value or permanent interpretation.
| Family | Characteristic activity | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Tomes | Read and annotate | A particular copy with inserted notes |
| Tableaux | View and represent | A portrait made during an event |
| Textiles | Wear and wrap | A garment retained through inheritance |
| Tableware | Serve and offer | A repaired cup used during tea |
| Tools | Operate and make | A camera with an unusual modification |
| Toys | Play and rehearse | A game with changed household rules |
| Terra | Tend and grow | A cutting passed between custodians |
| Trinkets | Carry and remember | A small charm with an attributed history |
The same possession can participate in several families. A planted cup supports serving history and living care. A camera produces a photograph, then staff enroll the photograph separately. Staff distinguish family from acquired role, current state, arrangement. The earlier framework appears under Novel Tokens.
