Object-mediated correspondence
A depositor authorizes a possession to receive a particular kind of response. A visitor encounters it, contributes an observation or question, chooses a possible reply. Staff compare the contribution with the custodian's account, prepare a bounded proposal, seek the relevant acceptance.
For the camera, the visitor recognizes a modification before learning the owner. Staff can ask whether they wish to share that observation with the custodian. The custodian can receive the selected account before deciding on further disclosure. A conversation can proceed through mediated messages or become a hosted meeting after both agree.
The institution maintains private contact and permission while the public object address remains available. It can also preserve a private exchange's occurrence without retaining its confidential detail where appropriate. Review, custody information, contribution rights develop these operations.
An object can remain available over weeks or months while its custodian participates elsewhere. Responses can accumulate under different scopes. Staff need procedures for reviewing relevance, avoiding unwanted follow-up, handling a withdrawn question, recording unanswered offers. The prominent example examines status under this same mechanism.
