Permissions

Staff and participants decide the allowed action, material, purpose, audience, duration, relevant authority. They record enough detail for another responsible person or software process to apply the decision. Permission can change through a later contribution or review.

A depositor may permit hosted use of a camera, reserve repair, allow selected images, withhold a family account, accept a proposed reply. A visitor may contribute an observation for private review while reserving public attribution. Staff treat these as separate choices because they authorize different operations.

The implementation needs understandable interfaces and assisted procedures. Staff record effective time, expiry, delegation conditions, later revocation, dependencies. Software checks the current decision before retrieval, interpretation, disclosure, action. Contribution rights, retention, delegated review develop particular uses. Existing publication or delivered correspondence may require its own follow-up after a change.
